UGC has banned MPhil / Phd thru Distance Education in India , but what about RTE in this regard .
We talk about Right to Education (RTE) , but isn't this ban on MPhil / Phd thru Distance Education by UGC violating Right to Education (RTE).
UGC concern here is about quality of research work carried out by students doing MPhil / Phd thru Distance Education .
But apart from Subjects that require Laboratory work there r subjects like Management , Commerce , Arts and Computers etc. that does not require a Research Scholar to attend full-time Campus to Complete his/her Thesis and Dissertation .
MPhil / Phd Scholars can do research work by using various library material or thru online media ,this does not purely require students to attend full-time Campus Course in such streams.
UGC talks about standard of research in such courses thru distance education , but in streams like Management , Commerce , Arts and Computers research can be done by an individual without much of a guidance.
UGC might have banned MPhil / Phd thru Distance Education considering the fact that teaching Community is trying to gain permanent lectureship / growth in their field without having to appear for ENTRANCE EXAMS(NET/SET) , what about people from non-teaching background who wud like to do such courses while on job.
Renowned Foreign Universities offer MPhil and Phd thru distance as well as ONLINE mode , so wats wrong if Indian Universities offer these programs in Distance mode.
When a University is established it shud have Complete power to conduct various programs in Regular , OffCampus , Distance and Online mode . Restricting them to do so is complete injustice to education system and student community on the whole.
UGC needs to lift ban on Mphil/Phd thru distance mode in India specially for streams that does not require any lab. work for experimental analysis.
Banning MPhil / Phd thru Distance Education seems to be pure violation of "RIGHT TO EDUCATION " and "RIGHT TO GROW " in your field of expertise and workplace.
